A coach who’s lived the career transition journey
The Corporate Years
Marcus spent eight years in human resources at a major Hong Kong financial institution. He wasn’t unhappy — the pay was good, the colleagues were smart, and the work was stable. But somewhere around year six, he started noticing something troubling. His colleagues weren’t just disengaged. They were stuck.
People would come to him wanting to explore different roles, different industries, different careers entirely. Yet the organization had no real framework for helping them navigate that change. He’d see talented individuals either force themselves to stay in roles that drained them or leave without any real plan for what came next. That gap haunted him.
The Pivot
So Marcus did what he couldn’t help others do — he made his own change. He enrolled at the University of Hong Kong to study organizational psychology, specifically focusing on career development and strengths-based approaches. The Master’s program wasn’t theoretical. It combined psychology, assessment tools, and real market research about Hong Kong’s unique economic landscape.
During his studies, he became certified in StrengthsFinder and the CliftonStrengths coaching framework. He wasn’t interested in cookie-cutter career advice. He wanted to understand how people could discover what they’re actually good at — and then align that with work that mattered to them. That’s when the real learning started.
Building Pathfinder
Seven years ago, Marcus joined Pathfinder Coaching Limited as a career transition specialist. What he’s built since then speaks for itself. He’s worked with over 800 professionals across finance, technology, and creative industries — helping them understand their strengths, clarify their purpose, and navigate the actual mechanics of changing careers.
His approach combines psychometric assessments with pragmatic market intelligence. He’s not interested in vague inspiration. You’ll get specific data about your strengths, honest feedback about market demand in Hong Kong, and a realistic plan for how to get from here to there. He’s conducted workshops at HKUST and Chinese University of Hong Kong. His thinking on mid-career reinvention appeared in the Harvard Business Review Asia edition.
What drives him most? Watching someone’s whole posture change when they finally align their natural abilities with meaningful work. That moment when the exhaustion lifts and they realize they’re moving toward something instead of away from something else. In Hong Kong’s relentless corporate environment, that shift matters more than most people realize.

What Marcus Focuses On
Understanding Your Strengths
Before you change anything, you need to know what you’re actually good at. Marcus uses psychometric assessments to help you see your real strengths — not the ones you think you should have, but the ones that come naturally.
Discovering Your Purpose
It’s not just about finding a new job. It’s about finding work that aligns with what actually matters to you. Marcus helps professionals clarify what a meaningful career looks like for them specifically — not what they think it should look like.
Navigating the Transition
Career changes aren’t linear. Marcus helps you navigate the practical side — how to position yourself in the market, what skills to develop, how to explain your pivot to employers, and how to handle the uncertainty along the way.
Building a Real Plan
You’ll walk away with a concrete strategy — not vague inspiration. A plan that accounts for Hong Kong’s economic landscape, your timeline, your financial reality, and your personal goals. Something you can actually execute.
